Hoardings around a development site at Winnersh Triangle, near Reading, have been decorated with colourful art created by children from the neighbouring nursery at the business park.

Contractor Winvic invited the youngsters from The Willows Nursery to visit the building site where the construction company is building a new 70,000-square foot office, research and development facility.

Geared up with hard hats and high visibility jackets, the excited children met the construction industry’s national safety mascot, Ivor Goodsite, and learned about the dangers of playing on building sites from Ian Goodhead, Winvic’s group health, safety, environment, and quality manager.

The Winvic team also challenged the youngsters to create pictures inspired by the morning’s safety theme, which are now being exhibited on the site hoardings.

The building site at Winnersh Triangle is where a new centre of excellence is being created for global aerospace and defence organisation Rockwell Collins.

Rockwell Collins’ new building will join the existing 1.3 million square feet of built stock already at Winnersh Triangle. The 85-acre mixed use business park was acquired in July 2013 by Oaktree Capital Management LP (‘Oaktree’) and real estate investor PATRIZIA UK Ltd.

Ian Goodhead, Winvic’s group health, safety, environment, and quality manager, said: “The children loved meeting Ivor Goodsite and it was a fun way to get across the safety message and to learn more about what's happening in their community.”

Ann Middleton, manager at The Willows Nursery which is part of the Toad Hall Nursery Group, added: “The children were really excited as well as the staff about attending the site. Once we were there we were made very welcome by Ivor Goodsite and the rest of the team.

“The information was scaled to the children's understanding and they were eager to tell their parents all about their enjoyable time at the building site.”
